I hope the board and the administration are now ready to entertain a realistic discussion of needs vs. nice-to-haves.Unfortunately, they wasted $35,000 of our money on a very divisive election to get there.

A district purchase of over $21,000 requires the approval of the board at an open meeting... That was not brought to the board for approval... Another case of Dr. Rock refusing to abide by district policies.
Board approval is only for things you get caught doing that your not supposed to. First you do what you want, then you wait...see if you get caught. If you don't you didn't need board approval, if you do then you hold a vote.. if it doesn't tuen out your way you say wait...everyones not here lets vote again.
I agree. That appears to be the way that admin handles things in CCS and for the most part, they get away with it because Dr. Rock has board majority with McGinnis, Hyer, Bomier, and Egan. I hope that Dr. Rock gets slammed with his evaluation that is currently being scheduled for 5/21 or 5/28 (or whenever they decide to have it). Anyone can send an email to Dr. Rock's secretary giving their opinion of Dr. Rock's performance from last May to now. I know I have plenty of issues to bring up. The board is not even voting on any of these things. They just ignore them. I sent Dr. Rock and Mrs. McGinnis an email about violations I have seen and Mrs. McGinnis' lack of action on them and have not even received an acknowledgement of receipt.In my opinion, Dr. Rock should be fired. I also believe that McGinnis and Bomier should not be reelected in the fall and Hyer and Egan should just quit.
About sending Rock's secretary an e-mail, yeah right! What are they going to do about the negative ones, DELETE?! What about those of us who work for the district, FIRE?!

If you really want to do something, you know you need board approval for and you really don't want to bother or inform the public, you merely put the word out to your admin peers and they will find a way for you to skirt the system. After all it's your district, maybe not your kids but it's for the kids. If you have to you let some building aides go..you play hardball with your support staff and spend away until you have to privatize. But at all costs do not acknowledge you may have to cut back on perks or extras that aren't core education...
You got it, it's all wrong. Plus, the lowest paid employees are a large part of the reason why Clarkston Schools were better in the past. Bullying is rampant due to having fewer aides and more crammed buses (fewer bus drivers?), especially with the large number of special ed students who are are far more likely to become victims of bullies. Also, due to the protections of their special education plans, if special ed students bully other students, they are frequently not disciplined. Who is monitoring the halls during class change. If anyone is there, do they do anything if they witness inappropriate behavior?
Haven't been on in awhile but saw this post & am commenting about the buses. The routes keep getting cut to save $ so CCS doesn't have to employ as many drivers. But, it doesn't matter. If a child bullies another child, there's not much in the way of discipline, the bully's parents whine because they don't want to have to drive there student to school so the child gets deemed special ed. This has happened numerous times (I know a few bus drivers).I think part of the problem stems from home, people aren't taking ownership...they're claiming entitlement...& they're passing that attitude along to their offspring & for some reason that notion is being tolerated everywhere!

Hi, I am a bus driver & for some reason, the special ed. staff & the parents can usually legitamize a real spec. ed. label for the student/bully to switch from general ed. to spec. ed. bus. I don't know if you want to waste your time in investigating that when there are other much more important issues. I don't however, like the fact that the bus rules are posted, sent home, listed in the students' planners, etc....& the students & parents are still NOT made to adhere to the rules, but God forbid if the driver tries to maintain order, in order to protect everyone's safety! Then, to hear that I can only make so much money or my job will be outsourced, but admin. can get an $11,000/yr. raise (Anita Banach)?! For what? Her raise is 1/2 what I make in a year! I'll do her job for 1/2 what she makes & yes, I am qualified. This district has really disgusted me the past few years. I don't like the corruption, we need honest people in charge, i.e. ME!
July 22,2012 Anon,So in your case, it sounds like you are saying that after a student is found to be bullying on the bus, that the district gives the bullies IEPs and then they are allowed on the special ed bus instead of your bus? Or are they given IEPs and then allowed to ride the regular bus and allowed to continue to bully?I have heard elsewhere that children of prominent, well to do parents are allowed to basically get away with doing whatever they want on the buses. They are allowed to get away with unacceptable behavior and neither the bus drivers or the parents of their victims can do anything about it. I have not seen that myself, but have heard stories that shocked me.Can you run for the school board if you are an employee? If so, maybe you should run. I think I am about as qualified as Anita Banach was for her job... What they are trying to do is a crime.
I found that employees cannot run for the school board, but your spouse could, just like Barry Bomier did... His wife was a special ed teacher and was later given responsibility for the Fast Forword program...
Dawwn,You should really gather an interested CRISIS group and tour every nook and cranny of the District office...then all the other facilities and see how the other 90% lives, you mite be suprised at what you see...or maybe not
I am NOT surprised. I know the money mismanagement is coming from the central office, not the schools, the cafeterias, the maintenance dept, bus dept, etc. I would love to be able to go over district operations and make recommendations on how to improve things... Unfortunately, no one in the central office wants any public input. Dr. Rock said publicly last year that he knows what's best for the district and he's just going to do it.What happened to "it's for the kids"? It was used as the rallying cry for the bond, but it is not adhered to within the district.I feel that contrary to what the district personnel and certain members of the board say publicly about the district claiming to be "all about the kids", in reality, the district is almost entirely "about the career advancement and personal financial objectives of the administrators and teachers and the political aspirations of certain members of the board".I believe that the majority of the CCS staff cares about the students and wants the best for them, but, in my opinion, the district as an organization considers the students only as a conduit to a continuation of the organization as a whole via the revenue their presence brings. Beyond that, the organization considers the students via their performances that the district can claim as bragging rights to be the result of the education the district provided to the students: their MEAP scores, awards, sports team records, college scholarship money earned by the students, etc.I also believe that the CCS organization does not really care about the staff unless they are tenured certified teachers, central office staff, or top administrators. The school office staff/secretaries, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, para pros, custodians, and other, less numerous and less highly paid groups of workers are considered expendable by the district.It's sad and wrong.
Thank you for your support, I am one of the 'pee-ons' whom the higher up don't care about. BUT, I am supposed to have MORE accountability than the teachers, paras, central office staff & admin. ???
